My Review

Pattern Description:  Knit faux wrap dress
Pattern Sizing: I cut a size Large, this pattern does run large, and think I probably could have cut a medium in the bodice but the Large fits okay.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, to me it does.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy to follow
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I don’t have any dislikes about the pattern
Fabric Used:  Its a knit not sure exactly what kind ligh weight. I had cut a lining to add to the dress but determined after sewing the pieces I didn’t need it, so it wasn’t as thin as I initially thought.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I lengthen the skirt portion 3 inches, because of my rather large “bum” I needed to make sure it would be appropriate length to wear to work. It is perfect length
Would you sew it again?  YES YES YES, will sew again All other views, I will try.
Would you recommend it to others? I would recommend to everyone, just beginning sewing, or someone who wants to build a quick wardrobe for work or play
Photos, lots of photos. Very proud of this project.

Extended the skirt pieces

I was scared before I put in the waist elastic in, the skirt was huge!

Completed project

Added belt to show where the waist sits.

Hello All

Going through my stash, and I found this floral print I wanted to make M6886, View DM6886
But I didn’t have enough fabric to cut it on the fold, and I didn’t want a back seam. So I went with another floral print. Going through all my fabric I think I may have an obsession with floral prints. I just love flowers, makes me feel very lady like.
This dress sewed very quickly, and I think I will be make more of this dress this summer I did view D, but will try the other views as well. Will post a picture when I wear it my photographer (daughter) is out of town right now.

                                          My Review

Pattern Description:  Sheath Dress
Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 18, which fits well
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, I so called myself pegging it at the bottom, but I’m sure I didn’t do it properly, but it comes to my body like I wanted too. Just didnt use the most polished technique
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy to follow
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I don’t have any dislikes about the pattern
Fabric Used:  Ity Knit, it kept sticking to my plate., I need to research more on how to work with this material
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Peg at the leg, I got rather large “bum” and I wanted to the bottom of the dress to be tighter at the knee and hem area, hate the rise in the back
Would you sew it again?  YES YES YES, will sew again
Would you recommend it to others? I would recommend to everyone, just beginning sewing, or someone who wants to build a quick wardrobe for work or play

Hello All
I have been holding on to this coupon that I got from Charming Charlie, in May for a sale that started June. Well I got to use it yesterday. I have a love and hate relationship with Charming Charlie. I love the variety, but I get overwhelmed with so many choices. So I build my cart with probably over $300.00 worth of stuff, then I saw more items I wanted. My budget was $80.00.

So I went and emptied my cart, went back to the front of the store, and picked one color to focus on, and just got items from that collection. You guessed it ORANGE, in celebration of the return of my favorite series. So next time I go in I will do the same pick one color, to focus on for the day and thats it. Once I build my accessory collection I will pick here and there, but for now focusing on one color at at a time.
Earlier this week I picked up a nice rotary cutter, from Joann with my 40% off coupon. They have a sale coming up called Firefly Frenzy, June 8-14. With two 50% off coupons, on their flyer. I think I will purchase some nice gingher shears during this time. With purchase of $50 or more, you get a coupon for 30% off the following week. They know how to keep a sista hooked.
Without a further delay pictures from my recent shopping trip.

Side note: I’m searching on craigslist for another dress form. I found one waiting on a call to see if it is still available. If I can get it this weekend, it will be another Fabulous Find.

The blue necklace was with the orange  items so I got it, it goes with the zig zag bracelet

The Ring is my favorite!

I love this rotary cutter, scissors are great but this cutter cuts so well, Im in heaven.

Happy Monday

I entered a sewing contest on Here . I knew I wanted something different, and unique so I went searching on Etsy. I found quite a few choices and I narrowed it down, and my husband helped me pick the winner. I checked ebay and I found one, in a plus size for a very reasonable price so I grabbed it up.
It took me three weeks to decide on fabric, and I was going to order line but I was afraid I wouldn’t like so I stayed local and I got the skirt fabric from Joann’s and the jumper fabric from hancock. And I used coupons at both so the price was very reasonable. (Yes, I waited to the last week of this month to sew this garment)

I didn’t run into to many problems while sewing, but some of the notions listed I was confused. It said a neck zipper, and I couldn’t determine if that meant invisible or none. So I went with the standard. Now that I think about it if it was invisible it probably would have said it. The pattern came cut already so some pieces were cut to short or missing a tiny piece so I filled that in with scrap paper.

The part that gave me the hardest time was the collar!! It just wouldn’t lay right.

I took it completely off, then I realized a piece was missing of the pattern so my upper and lower collar wouldn’t match up. I recut ithe upper and bottom collar, and started over, the second time it worked very well.

I realized that I sewed it using a basting stitch length, so I went back over the stitches.
I originally wanted to do a blind hem stitch on the jumper, but couldn’t get it to work right (newbie problems) So I turned it over and continued. When I got to the skirt, it required a blind hem. So I tried it again, and a few adjustments it came out perfect. So I went back to the jumper and did a blind hem. I absolutely love this outfit! And look forward to wearing it soon.

Skills learned:

  • blind hem stitch/machine
  • darts/ back and breast
  • insert elastic, casing
  • pleats both sides of the skirt
